Agile Delivery of Electrical Power Technology (ADEPT)

Open Date: 03/02/2010

Close Date: 05/24/2010

Funding Organization: Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

Funding Number: DE-FOA-0000288

Summary:

The purpose of this amendment is to request full applications to the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) DE-FOA-0000288 with a deadline for submission of Monday, May 24, 2010 at 5:00 PM Eastern Time. Earlier submissions are encouraged. The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) is a new agency of the Department of Energy. ARPA-E was authorized by the America COMPETES Act (PL 110-69) and charged with the mission to fund projects that will develop transformational technologies that reduce Americas dependence on foreign energy imports; reduce U.S. energy related emissions, including greenhouse gases; improve energy efficiency across all sectors of the U.S. economy; and ensure that the United States maintains its leadership in developing and deploying advanced energy technologies. Initially funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (PL 111-5), ARPA-E aims to support the development of high risk/high payoff applied science and technology innovations that will have a positive disruptive impact on the energy landscape. In the United States about 40% of the primary energy consumed is used to produce electricity. Electricity is projected to supply an increasing share of the world's total energy demand and is the fastest-growing form of end-use energy worldwide.

The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invest in power electronic technologies that can leapfrog over today's approaches and create the technologies to enable a 25-30% reduction in electricity consumption (or 12% of the total U.S. energy consumption) and significant reductions in cost and form factor for power electronic.
