Summary:
This laboratory program announcement is in support of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy strategic goal to increase the energy efficiency of industry. Part of the strategy is to support high-risk, high-reward research and development to develop novel materials and processes that would reduce manufacturing energy intensity in US industrial manufacturing and processing. Because many companies lack adequate research and development capabilities to develop novel materials and processes, and such capabilities are available at national laboratories, this call is specifically directed at national laboratories. They are invited to form and lead teams composed of industry (mandatory requirement), academia, and other research and development organizations.
