Summary:
DOE is seeking applications from DOE National Labs to address key aspects of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) site selection and characterization, reservoir creation and validation, reservoir sustainability, and plant operation and management. National Laboratories are encouraged to propose innovative ideas related to one or more of the following research topics:
• Air Cooling
• Drilling Systems High Temperature Downhole Tools High-Temperature-High-Volume Lifting
• High-Pressure-High-Volume Pumping Integrated Chemical, Thermal, Mechanical and Hydrological Modeling
• Image Fluid Flow
• Induced Seismicity
• Remote Sensing Technologies
• Smart Tracers
• Stimulation Prediction Models
• Supercritical Carbon Dioxide/Reservoir Rock Chemical Interactions–
• Systems Engineering/Analysis
• Temporary Sealing of Fractures
• Tracers and Tracer Interpretation
• Zonal Isolation
• Working Fluids for Binary Power Plants
Approximately $20,000,000 is expected to be available for new awards under this announcement over the next 3-year period, with $5,000,000 available in FY 09, subject to Congressional appropriations.
