Salton Sea Power Plant Recognized as Most Innovative Geothermal Project
February 10, 2013
The
first power plant to be built in the Salton Sea area in 20 years was recognized
in December by Power Engineering magazine as the most innovative geothermal
project of the year. Sixty miles east of San Diego, the area holds one of the
highest
temperature resources for geothermal energy, with a capacity of 2 GW. The
company plans to break ground on a second 50 MW plant this year. In terms of
area covered, Salton Sea is the largest lake in California and saltier than the
Pacific Ocean.
