Improvements in power plant efficiency will lower the cost of geothermal power.

In this area, the Geothermal Technologies Program partners with industry in its research and development efforts to ensure geothermal technology application relevance and to enhance deployment prospects.

The integration of new technologies at operating geothermal fields can bring an additional 100-300 megawatts of generating capacity online within two years.

Outreach activities such as the GeoPowering the West initiative are designed to remove barriers to the use of geothermal energy in the western United States.
