Hydrogen Facts (Text Alternative Version)

This is the text alternative transcript for the U.S. Hydrogen Program radio broadcast titled: Hydrogen Facts. The audio file can be accessed on the DOE Hydrogen Program Media Files page.

(Female Voice) So, Danny, did you finish your project?

(A young boy...10 or 11...) Yes mom.

Mom (skeptical): ...Tell me about it...

Boy: Well...Mrs. Martinez asked us to research hydrogen.

Mom: Hydrogen...H2, right?

Boy (excited): Right. I found a website — hydrogen.energy.gov...Did you know hydrogen can be used in fuel cells to power cars and even buildings?

Mom:...uh...I think I knew that...

Boy (not waiting): ... And that hydrogen can be made from plants or fossil fuels or even water?

Mom: (now she's really interested): Wow! You mean no more depending on other folks for energy?

Boy (increasingly excited): Yep! And fuel cells make electricity with no pollution — the only emission is water.

Mom: Water? That's it? Well that'd be better for the environment, huh?

Boy: It's so cool! My school bus and even my school could some day be powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Mom: I'm impressed Danny. Sounds like you've got quite an H2IQ!

Boy (laughs): Thanks, mom.

Announcer: Increase your H2IQ by going to hydrogen.energy.gov. This message brought to you by the US Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
