Industrial Technologies Program Activities in Nebraska

General Information

Nebraska has a total of 1.8 million residents and is ranked 37th in GDP, representing $80.1 billion. The state is home to four Fortune 500 companies. In 2006, Nebraska ranked 36th in the nation's industrial energy consumption at 207.3 trillion Btu and 35th in the nation's industrial natural gas consumption at 44.7 trillion Btu. The state's top 10 industries are listed in the table below. Nebraska's leading industries include food manufacturing, machinery manufacturing, and chemical manufacturing. Together, these industries are responsible for 47,541 jobs, $47.5 million in payroll, and $27,119.9 million in shipments.

Energy Savings Assessments

With emphasis on reducing natural gas consumption, DOE provides American businesses, factories, and manufacturing facilities with on-site Energy Savings Assessments (ESAs). The purpose of these assessments is to identify immediate opportunities to save energy and money that will lead to significant long-term savings. Gold and silver stars represent facilities that have been recognized for their achievements in industrial energy savings.
