Industrial Technologies Program Activities in Oregon

General Information

Oregon has a total of 3.7 million residents and ranks 26th in the nation in terms of GDP, which is $158.2 billion. The state is home to two Fortune 500 companies. In 2006, Oregon ranked 31st in the nation's industrial energy consumption at 293.1 trillion Btu and 30th in the nation's industrial natural gas consumption at 72.5 trillion Btu. The top 10 industries in the state are listed in the table below. Oregon's leading industries include computer and electronic product and manufacturing, wood product manufacturing, and food manufacturing. Together, these industries are responsible for 73,924 jobs, $3,346.8 million in payroll, and $38,820.4 million in shipments.

The Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) is working with eight partners in the state on cost-shared research and development projects and on near-term industrial savings through the Save Energy Now initiative. ITP also supports one university-based Industrial Assessment Center that provides free energy assessments to industry while simultaneously training the engineers of tomorrow. In addition, there are three active and five complete R&D, and four ITP Project Successes in Oregon.

States Incentives and Resources Database

This database is a comprehensive collection of incentives and resources for implementing energy-efficiency measures in a commercial or industrial facility. These incentives are often financial and are in place to reward business and residential customers for making strides in energy efficiency. The resources are in the form of analysis tools, education and training programs, and energy audits. The following link will take you to a site that will show you the energy incentives and resources in Oregon.

Energy Savings Assessments

With emphasis on reducing natural gas consumption, DOE provides American businesses, factories, and manufacturing facilities with on-site Energy Savings Assessments (ESAs). The purpose of these assessments is to identify immediate opportunities to save energy and money that will lead to significant long-term savings. Gold and silver stars represent facilities that have been recognized for their achievements in industrial energy savings. The following is a list of businesses that have all benefited from ITP assessments in Oregon:
