Industrial Technologies Program Activities in Texas

General Information

Texas has a total of 23.9 million residents and ranks 2nd in the nation in terms of GDP, which is $1,142.0 billion. The state is home to 58 Fortune 500 companies. In 2006, Texas ranked 1st in the nation's industrial energy consumption at 5,926.1 trillion Btu and 1st in the nation's industrial natural gas consumption at 1,636.8 trillion Btu. The top 10 industries in the state are listed in the table below. Texas' leading industries include petroleum and coal product manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, and computer and electronic product manufacturing. Together, these industries are responsible for 161,324 jobs, $11,201.6 million in payroll, and $322,966.0 million in shipments.

The Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) is working with 46 partners in the state on cost-shared research and development projects and on near-term industrial savings through the Save Energy Now initiative. ITP also supports one university-based Industrial Assessment Center that provides free energy assessments to industry while simultaneously training the engineers of tomorrow. In addition, there are 4 active and 11 complete R&D, and eight ITP Project Successes in Texas.

Energy Savings Assessments

With emphasis on reducing natural gas consumption, DOE provides American businesses, factories, and manufacturing facilities with on-site Energy Savings Assessments (ESAs). The purpose of these assessments is to identify immediate opportunities to save energy and money that will lead to significant long-term savings. Gold and silver stars represent facilities that have been recognized for their achievements in industrial energy savings. The following is a list of businesses that have all benefited from ITP assessments in Texas:
