About Glass Industry of the Future

The Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) works within the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) to reduce energy intensity. ITP's coordinated program of technology research and development (R&D), validation, and dissemination produces technologies and practices to increase industrial energy efficiency both now and in the future.

The Industrial Technologies Program implements the Glass Industry of the Future (IOF) effort to promote technology development of more energy-efficient, environmentally sound, glass processing technology. The Glass IOF works in partnership with the Glass Manufacturing Industry Council, an organization representing the technology needs of the U.S. glass industry. By fostering collaborative partnerships, the Glass IOF leverages public and private resources and ensures the application of research results.

Staff at ITP and the DOE Golden Field Office manage the activities and projects undertaken by the Glass IOF. Key functions include:

Planning targeted R&D solicitations that focus on the largest energy efficiency opportunities in glassmaking
Performing analytic studies
Conducting peer reviews for R&D projects and proposals
Disseminating and showcasing research results
Coordinating with other government offices
Serving as good stewards of public resources
