Tutorial: Quick PEP Cases

Overview

Quick PEP puts all of the information for your plant in a case. You may use Quick PEP for multiple plants, but each plant will have its own case. A case has information for only one plant. Quick PEP handles one case at a time. If you want to switch between two cases you should save the first case before opening the second case. By default Quick PEP saves case files down to your local computer. Your case data will not be saved to the server. The only exception to this is if you decide to register and create an account with a username and password.

It is also very important to understand that Quick PEP is a web application. You will only be able to open and work on case files while you are connected to the internet.

New Case

To start a new case click on New from the main Quick PEP menu. This will create a new blank case. It will also take you to Step 1 of the Quick PEP process - Case Information.

It is important to understand that if you click on New while you are in the middle of working on another Quick PEP case that you should save your current case before starting a new case or you might lose your work.

Open Case

To open an existing case click on Open from the main Quick PEP menu.

This will take you to the Open Case screen. To upload your case file from your computer click on the Browse button. This will open a dialog box from your web browser to find the file that you want to upload. Locate the correct Quick PEP case file (with a .QPEP extension) and click on Ok to close the dialog box. Once you have selected the proper case file, click on the Open Case button. This will upload your case file to the server and take you to Step 1 - Case Information.

Registered Users

Registered users have an additional method of opening case files. If you are a registered user and have previously saved case files to the server, you can open a case by simply clicking on the link for the case from the list of My Cases as shown below. You must be registered and logged in to use this feature.

Save Case

To save the current case click on Save from the main Quick PEP menu.

On the Save Case screen simply click on the Save Current Case to File button. Your web browser will ask you what you wish to do with this file (which will have a .QPEP extension). Make sure that you select the option to save the file to your computer. It is up to you to save the file to a folder or location on your computer hard drive that you will remember. Once you have confirmed the location on your computer the browser will download the Quick PEP file. The default name of the file will be the name of the case with any spaces in the name replaced with underscore characters. If the name of your Quick PEP case was My New Case, then the name of the corresponding case file would be My_New_Case.qpep.

Registered Users

Registered users do not need to do anything to save a case. As a registered user moves from screen to screen in Quick PEP, the system always saves the case information to the server. However, a registered user can also use the Save Case screen as described above if they wish to save a case to a text file on their local computer.

Case Files

Quick PEP saves the case information to a text file with a .QPEP extension. Under normal circumstances you should not need to open these files on your computer for any reason. You can easily send these case files to colleagues at your company or anyone else that you would like to share your case with. They could then use the Quick PEP web site to open the case. Please take care in distributing these case files as they contain all of your case information in plain text format.
