Energy Assessments - The Path to Energy Savings

Overview of Required Application Data

You may begin the online application form at any time and come back to it later to complete it. Before you begin, you may want to gather the required data for completing the application. View the application instructions to see the required data.

The application form will ask for basic contact information so that we can communicate with you throughout the process. We will ask you for a contact person at the plant, who we will work with on assessment logistics, if your plant is selected. The application also asks for information about average annual fuel use at your plant. Because the success of Save Energy Now is measured by energy savings achieved in industrial plants, we are looking for plants that use the greatest amount of energy and therefore provide the most opportunities for savings, particularly of natural gas.

Provide Average Fuel Use Data

Viewing the application instructions will help you to gather the necessary data. You will be asked to provide energy-related data about your plant, including average annual fuel use for the following:

  • Coal
  • Electricity
  • Heavy oil
  • Light oil
  • Natural gas
  • Other gaseous fuels

Select an Energy Intensive System

Because each energy assessment focuses on a particular energy system, you will be asked to select an energy intensive system to be the focus of the assessment. Each assessment focuses on a particular energy system. Eligible systems include:

  • Compressed air
  • Steam
  • Process heating
  • Pumps
  • Fans

If you are not sure which system to focus on, you can use the online Quick PEP software tool to help you identify the most promising system for your energy assessment. Quick PEP provides rapid diagnosis of the overall energy picture at your plant and presents you with a plan to further investigate opportunities for savings. The results will enable your plant personnel to focus on improving the performance of major energy-consuming systems.

If you don't know which type of system to focus on, you may select "Don't Know," and we will help you determine the system to assess, if your plant is selected.

Request Preferred Dates

For scheduling purposes, we will also ask you to identify on the application your preferred dates to begin your assessment.

After You Apply

After we receive your application, we may contact you for additional information or for clarification of some of the data.

We will determine which plants from the application pool best meet the guidelines for plant energy use. Some plants will be selected to receive a 3-day, large-plant assessment, and some will be selected to receive a 1-day, small/medium-sized plant assessment. All plants will be eligible for technical assistance from the EERE Information Center.

If selected, you will be contacted with specific information about scheduling and participating in the assessment.
