Robotics in Manufacturing Technology Workshop and Roadmap
In June 2006, a workshop on robotics in manufacturing technology was held to identify critical barriers that have limited the use of robots in manufacturing. These barriers include the lack of robot dexterity, limited support for robot service and maintenance, and inadequate operator interface. During the workshop, industry stakeholders also provided their input on R&D and other activities needed to expand the application of robot systems in the manufacturing sector. Their suggestions include improving "intelligent" grips, creating collaborative "Centers of Excellence", and developing user-friendly robot interface software. The results of this workshop were incorporated into a roadmap that provides a strategic plan for addressing these activities (PDF 1.8 MB). Download Adobe Reader.
