ITP Partnerships with Industry

In order to decrease industrial energy intensity by 25 percent in 10 years, the Industrial Technologies Program (ITP), through Save Energy Now (SEN), is forming partnerships with a broad range of entities, including industry, in accordance with the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct).

ITP industrial partnerships aim to combine the expertise of industry and government to develop solutions to complex industrial challenges. ITP partners with several energy-intensive industries such as aluminum, chemicals, metal casting, steel, forest products, mining, glass, and petroleum refining, to identify best practice solutions, develop and increase utilization of cross-cutting technologies, and encourage participation in industrial energy assessments.

Partnering is a strategy that is also catching on throughout the states. State governments are joining forces with local industry by leveraging resources to accelerate progress toward common goals.

Key benefits of these partnerships include:

  • Leveraging government funds and improving access to top scientific expertise and facilities.
  • Gaining a competitive edge by building on pre-competitive R&D to privately develop and commercialize innovative technologies.
  • Helping guide technology developments that promote sustainable growth for industry.
  • Enhancing public perception of energy-intensive industries by demonstrating a commitment to energy efficiency and environmental performance.
