Emerging Technologies

Over the past 27 years, the Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) has supported more than 600 separate research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) projects, producing over 140 technologies that have successfully reached the marketplace. These technologies have resulted in significant energy savings, waste reduction, increased productivity, lowered emissions, and improved product quality for U.S. manufacturers.

By working in partnership with industry, ITP helps minimizes the risks for individual companies of investing in new technology and leverages limited R&D resources. ITP does this by:

Working with industry through the Energy Intensive Industries strategy to identify research priorities
Supporting collaborative RD&D with Energy Intensive Industries—aluminum, chemicals, glass, forest products, metal casting, mining, petroleum, and steel
Providing technical assistance such as plant assessments and system improvements
Financial assistance to encourage technology demonstration

ITP currently has more than 142 technologies that are emerging from research and development and are expected to be ready for commercialization within the next one to two years.
