Corporate and Financial Data

The following links provide useful financial and corporate information to help entrepreneurs research potential competitors and perform comparative financial analysis of their own businesses:

Corporate Information.com
This site is the best first stop if you are attempting to conduct basic background research on well-established competitors. In addition to a range of reports for sale, this site conducts a meta search of other Web pages' free corporate information, including government agencies. While there are limits to the depth of most freely available corporate analysis, this page aggregates what is available quite well.

Dun & Bradstreet
Dun & Bradstreet provides credit rating and financial analysis for most American companies. Search by company name here to purchase credit reports.

Risk Management Associates
Primarily intended as a resource for the financial services industry, Risk Management Associates establishes standards and distributes information related to lending risk. However, it also provides useful resources to entrepreneurs wishing to do comparative financial analysis of their own businesses or better understand prevailing standards for capital and risk.

Moody's and Standard & Poor's
In addition to providing news and analysis on securities markets, these two firms evaluate credit risk and issue bond ratings for all major corporations and governments. Much of their analysis (including credit ratings) is provided free of charge through their Web pages, though registration for both Moody's and S&P is required.

Hoover's
The fee-for-service corporate analysis offering from Hoover's, an information and editorial service focusing on corporate and financial information. Most of the services involve direct relationships with companies, though some reports and analyses are available at this site.

Bloomberg
A financial reporting firm emphasizing securities and bond markets, with much of the information available free because the media services (television and radio) form the current core of Bloomberg's public products. A good source of market-oriented news.
