Ex-Im Bank to Boost Renewable Exports with $250 Million in Financing
The U.S. Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank is launching a $250
million facility to finance the export of U.S. renewable energy
products. The bank will also encourage various lending
institutions to adopt policies to promote clean energy exports. More

DOE Awards $377 Million to 46 Energy Frontier Research Centers
DOE has awarded $377 million to 46 new Energy Frontier
Research Centers (EFRCs), including $277 million in Recovery
Act funding. Sixteen EFRCs received five years of funding
up-front from the Recovery Act to study solar energy,
biofuels, solid-state lighting, hydrogen production, and other
energy technologies. More

DOE Offers $30 Billion in Loan Guarantees for Renewable Energy Projects
DOE is offering an estimated $30 billion in loan guarantees for
renewable energy projects, with some loan guarantees
specifically set aside for cutting-edge biofuel projects. The
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is providing some

Global Clean Energy Investment Nearly Doubles in Second Quarter
Global clean energy investments reached $24.3 billion in the
second quarter of 2009, up 83% relative to the first quarter,
with investors putting money into renewable energy projects
and stock offerings, according to New Energy Finance. But
investment remains weak in the United States, at only $1.6

G8 and Major Economy Leaders Agree to Slash Greenhouse Emissions
Both the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized nations and the
larger Major Economies Forum have agreed that global
warming should be kept below 2 degrees Celsius, that
greenhouse gas emissions should be drastically cut by 2050,
and that emissions should peak in the near future. More

United States Joins the International Renewable Energy Agency
The United States and 21 other countries joined the new
International Renewable Energy Agency on June 29, bringing
its total membership to 136 nations. The interim headquarters
of the new agency will be in Masdar City, a clean energy
district under development in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the
United Arab Emirates. More

Labor Department Offers $500 Million for Clean Energy Job Training
The U.S. Department of Labor has released five solicitations
for grants that will improve and expand the training
opportunities for people seeking work in the fields of energy
efficiency and renewable energy. The application due dates
for the grants run from August through October. More
