The Critical Materials Hub will coordinate Research and Development across the entire materials lifecycle. Research and Development will combine basic and applied research with engineering to accelerate scientific discovery utilizing highly collaborative teams across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines. The initial award period is for five years. The Hub will be funded up to a total of $20 million in the first year; up to $10 million of those funds can be devoted to infrastructure start-up for the Hub, including building renovation (but not new construction), lease arrangements, equipment, and instrumentation. It is anticipated that the Hub will be funded up to $25 million per year for Hub operations in the final four years of the initial award period, pending Congressional appropriations.
