    Critical Materials Workshop Update

    April 3, 2012

Arlington, VA (Webinar available for those unable to attend in person)

The Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO) at the U.S. Department of Energy will host a public workshop on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 in Arlington, VA to provide background information on critical materials assessment, the current research within DOE related to critical materials, and the foundational aspects of Energy Innovation Hubs. Due to increased interest, the workshop has been expanded to include breakout discussions on areas of interest in research and development (R&D). The information from this meeting may inform the Critical Materials Energy Innovation Hub funding opportunity.

The workshop will discuss cross-cutting R&D questions related to critical materials. The preliminary agenda for the workshop includes overview presentations by government personnel, breakout discussions on research gaps in critical materials, and a networking session to facilitate interaction among the workshop participants. The breakout sessions will focus on cross-cutting solutions to elimination/substitution of critical materials in energy technologies; reduction in critical materials use in energy technologies; recovery and separation; and sustainable and adaptive use.
