DOE Issues Fuel and Feedstock Flexibility, Combined Heat and Power Solicitation

DOE’s Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) is accepting applications for cost-shared research and development of technologies that enable utilization of opportunity fuels and nontraditional feedstocks in industrial processes, as well as enable the use of combined heat and power in underutilized applications.  

This funding opportunity supports ITP program goals and objectives to drive a 25% reduction in U.S. industrial energy intensity by 2017, and an 18% reduction in U.S. carbon intensity by 2012.  

Proposed R&D should focus on one of the following areas:    

Approximately $4 million in total funding is available in FY2008 for new awards with an additional $6 million expected to be available for awards under this announcement in out years. One to five awards will be issued for each area of interest with individual awards of $500,000 to $2 million.    

The deadline for proposals is July 14, 2008, at 8:00 PM EST. Selections will be made at the end of August 2008. Awards will be issued by September 30, 2008.
