Public Officials and Industry Leaders Discuss Challenges Facing Texas' Chemicals Industry

On May 31, 2001, state, federal, and industry leaders convened to define issues and challenges currently facing the chemical industry in the state of Texas. The event was part of the OIT-sponsored Texas Industries of the Future program, which aims to increase research, development, and transfer of energy-efficient and waste reduction technologies and processes across the state. To this end, forum participants identified high-priority research needs and strategies to achieve the Texas Industries of the Future vision, n Industrial Base That Is World Class and Sustainable.

The program agenda consisted of presentations from the following: Dr. David Allen, University of Texas and Texas Council on Environmental Technologies; Dr. Earl Beaver, Chief Technology Officer - Bridges to Sustainability; Senator Buster Brown, Texas State Legislature; Kathey Ferland, Texas Industries of the Future; Jerry Matthews, Executive Director - Texas Energy Coordination Council; Williams Mullican, Director - Water Resources Planning Division Texas Water Development Board; and, Denise Swink, Deputy Assistant Secretary - Office of Industrial Technologies.
