AEE Offers Opportunities to IAC Students

The Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) Program and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) are working together to encourage IAC students to become more involved with the AEE, and to educate AEE members that the IAC is an important resource for experienced, entry-level energy engineers.

The Association of Energy Engineersmission is to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster cooperative action in advancing the common purposes of its members and to promote activities designed to enable the industry to be conducted with the greatest economy and efficiency.

IAC students may wish take advantage of several opportunities available to them through AEE. These include reduced fees for AEE student membership ($15) and conference registration at the World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC, $295), and access to the AEE Job Center web site. IAC students are invited to participate in the local chapters of AEE (see www.aeecenter.org/Chapters to find a chapter near you), or to start their own student chapter. Participation in local chapters may present opportunities for students to receive AEE scholarship funds.

After graduation, IAC alumni may choose to participate in the AEE Energy-Manager-In-Training (EMIT) program as a precursor to becoming Certified Energy Managers (CEM). The CEM designation identifies energy professionals as individuals who have demonstrated high levels of experience, competence, proficiency and ethical fitness in the energy management profession.

Additionally, AEE has agreed to recognize IAC experience as qualifying experience towards the 3-year requirement for the CEM, thus expediting your ability to acquire your CEM after graduation. IAC students are invited to attend the 26th WEEC in Atlanta, November 11-14, 2003. IAC Directors and alumni will discuss their IAC-related projects during a technical session on November 13. Also, AEE is hosting a breakfast for IAC students and alumni, prior to the technical session.
