December 3, 2004

Steam is used throughout many industrial processes including process heating, pressure control, mechanical drive, and component separation, and, is a source of water for many process reactions.  Although the amount of energy used to generate steam can be significant, there are many opportunities to increase system efficiency. Industry professionals now have an updated resource for increasing energy efficiency and productivity by optimizing their steam systems. In collaboration with industry partners, ITP has recently revised Improving Steam System Performance: A Sourcebook for Industry. This Sourcebook is a complete guide to steam system basics, performance improvement opportunities and tools, and an extensive contacts directory.  In addition, practical, low-and no-cost tips are provided that can result in immediate energy savings. Access the Sourcebook online or order your copy from the EERE Information Center.
