Chemical Bandwidth Study Analyzes Energy Savings Opportunities
February 7, 2005
ITP's Chemicals portfolio works with the chemical industry to develop energy-efficient technologies. To help guide research decision-making, ITP commissioned a "bandwidth" study to determine the highest energy-consuming chemical processes. The objectives of the study were to identify and measure the inefficiencies of existing technologies and processes, pinpoint the location of energy losses, calculate the recoverable energies for each process, and examine common energy losses in major unit operations. One advantage of this study is the use of "exergy" analysis, which evaluates the quality of the energy lost and distinguishes between recoverable and non-recoverable energy.
