DOE Industrial Technologies Program Introduces Three New Software Assessment Tools

DOE's Industrial Technologies Program offers industry a suite of assessment and analysis software tools to help you identify key opportunities for reducing costs, saving energy and improving the performance of industrial energy systems. Now, ITP expands the tool suite further by introducing these three new software tools on the BestPractices Web site.
- Plant Energy Profiler for the Chemical Industry (ChemPEP) is a robust tool to help chemical industry energy managers determine overall plant energy use, identify major energy-using equipment, review cost distributions, and locate areas of improvement. Developed in partnership with American Institute of Chemical Engineers, a DOE Allied Partner, ChemPEP provides a quick way for chemical plant energy managers to:
- Baseline energy flows in the plant and get an overall picture of plant energy use
- Identify major energy-using equipment and unit operations
- Summarize energy cost distributions
- Pinpoint potential areas to focus improvement efforts and determine next steps.
- Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Application Tool helps industrial users evaluate the feasibility of CHP for heating systems, such as fuel-fired furnaces, boilers, ovens, heaters, and heat exchangers. Use the tool to estimate system costs and payback period, and to perform "what-if" analysis for various utility costs. The tool includes performance data and preliminary cost information for many commercially-available gas turbines, and default values that can be adapted to meet specific application requirements.
- Chilled Water System Analysis Tool (CWSAT) helps you determine system energy requirements and evaluate opportunities for energy and costs savings by applying improvement measures. Provide basic information about an existing configuration to calculate current energy consumption, and then select proposed equipment or operational changes for comparison. The results of this analysis will help you quantify the potential benefits of chilled water system improvements.
Download these new tools, free of charge, and review the entire suite of ITP software tools from the BestPractices web site. In addition, ITP BestPractices offers several End-User Training workshops to help enhance your use of the tools and incorporate them into your plant's energy management approach. More experienced industry professionals can participate in Specialist Qualification Training in specific BestPractices tools. By successfully completing the training and exam, you receive DOE recognition and can use your advanced knowledge to assist your plant or industrial customers find ways to improve energy efficiency.
