OIT Meets with New Process Heating Stakeholders Group

The newly created Process Heating Steering Committee—a group of industrial users and suppliers of process heating equipment—met in Arlington, VA, in October to identify near-term actions that address the needs of the process heating industry. The committee discussed performance measures of throughput gain, reject rate reduction (increased yield), emission reduction, and energy savings. This information is being used to develop a list of possible improvements in process heating best practices in energy-intensive industries. The committee concluded the meeting by defining the Process Heating Steering Committee's purpose and responsibilities.

The Process Heating Steering Committee is comprised of ten members, five from the Industrial Heating Equipment Association, who represent companies that design and supply heating equipment such as furnaces, kilns, heaters, etc., and five representatives from the Industries of the Future (steel, aluminum, glass, petroleum and metalcasting), who are significant users of process heat. The steering committee will provide a forum to offer input about the direction of DOE-OIT BestPractices activities in the process heating area. The committee will also provide advice and offer services to OIT's BestPractices team in areas such as the development of a solicitation for the process heating area and review of subsequent proposals.
