NICE3 Project Selected as an R&D 100 Recipient

    July 9, 2002

The NICE3 project, Scale Supercritical Fluid Chromatograph (Prep SFC), has been selected as an R&D 100 recipient. Each R&D 100 recipient will be featured in the September issue of R&D Magazine, and a plaque will be awarded at an Awards Ceremony and Exhibition on October 16th at the Chicago Museum of Science & Industry. The Prep SFC Technology, demonstrated by Berger Instruments and funded by NICE3, purifies combinatorial compound libraries at 20 to 100 times the rate of current systems. This technology makes it economically feasible for pharmaceutical companies to purify hundreds of thousands of compounds per year with 90% recovery and 95% purity, while reducing both energy consumption and solvent waste by more than 90%, compared to current methods. Prep SFC has the industry-wide potential of saving 4 million gallons of chemical waste, and 590 megawatt-hours of electricity per year.
