New Reports Highlight ITP's R&D Successes

Two reports have just been released that highlight ITP's R&D accomplishments that improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impacts. Since 1979, ITP has supported more than 600 separate projects that have yielded approximately 170 technologies, 90 of which are now commercially available. Through a coordinated program of R&D, validation, and dissemination of energy technologies and operating practices, ITP partners with industry to boost industrial energy efficiency. By collaborating with industry partners, ITP reduces the risk for individual companies of investing in new technologies, identifies research priorities, provides technical assistance, and leverages R&D resources.

The newly updated report, IMPACTS - Industrial Technology Program: Summary of Program Results for CY 2004 (PDF 3.8 MB), summarizes projects and technologies to date, and reports on resulting energy savings. In 2004, ITP programs were instrumental in achieving energy savings to industry of 366 trillion Btu of natural gas and cost savings of $2.06 billion. In addition to these impressive savings, industry has also benefited from productivity improvements, reduced resource use, decreased emissions, and improved product quality.

In addition, ITP also presents Energy Technology Solutions: Public-Private Partnerships Transforming Industry (PDF 5.7 MB), which features ITP-supported technologies available in the marketplace today, as well as emerging technologies expected to enter the commercial market within the next 3 years. It also includes results for improved industrial processes, and a section describing DOE resources available, such as technical information, training, plant-wide assessments, and software tools.
