    Inventions & Innovation (I&I) Announces FY 2006 Awards for Energy-Saving Technologies

    A total of 10 new projects will receive $1,775,000 in grant funding from Inventions & Innovation (I&I) in the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.  I&I selected the technologies through a competitive solicitation process, which included a pre-application phase lasting from August 29, 2005 until October 11, 2005, and a full-application phase lasting from January 10, 2006 until January 31, 2006.  At the close of the pre-application phase, I&I had received 219 pre-applications, 44 of which were selected for submission of full-applications after initial screening.   

    I&I provides funding at two levels: Category 1 projects can receive up to $50,000 for conducting early-stage development and establishing technical performance; Category 2 projects can receive up to $250,000 for more advanced technologies moving toward prototype development and commercialization.
