Second Edition of Pumping Systems Sourcebook Is Available Online

The second edition of Improving Pumping System Performance: A Sourcebook for Industry is now available online. In about 120 pages, this sourcebook describes the basics of industrial pumping systems and the wealth of ways that industrial plants can increase these systems' efficiency and performance to save energy and money.
System inefficiencies are often the reason that a plant's maintenance staff have to spend so much time repairing or replacing individual pieces of equipment, such as pump seals and bearings. Therefore, this sourcebook takes a systems approach to describing opportunities for making performance and efficiency improvements. In general, a systems approach focuses on the performance of the pumping system as a whole rather than simply on the operation of individual components.
Also included in this sourcebook are 11 fact sheets that describe specific opportunities for performance and efficiency improvements, a section on the economics of system improvements, and a section on where to look and whom to contact for more information and assistance. The appendices include a glossary of basic terms, information about the Pumping System Assessment Tool (PSAT) and how to obtain it free of charge, and numerous helpful tip sheets.
This edition of the sourcebook was developed for DOE's Industrial Technologies Program by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Resource Dynamics Corporation, and the Alliance to Save Energy. The Hydraulic Institute, a pump manufacturers trade association, and many of its members provided valuable technical reviews.
