DOE Distributes Tools for Industrial Energy Savings
August 2, 2006
DOE has distributed CD-ROMs with energy-saving information and
software to 3,500 industrial plant managers across the United States
to help them cut energy use and costs. These large industrial plants
were identified as some of the most energy-intensive plants in the
United States, and the Save Energy Now CDs contain tip sheets, case
studies, software, and guidance on energy management and plant
assessment to help them identify opportunities to save energy.
Under the Save Energy Now initiative, DOE has also been conducting
no-cost energy assessments at 200 large industrial facilities, with a
focus on steam or process heating systems. The first 61 assessments
have identified a total of almost $200 million per year in potential
energy cost savings, which could reduce natural gas consumption by
over 22 trillion Btu per year. Within the first 30 days of
implementing energy saving measures recommended during the
assessments, eight plants reported a total of $1 million in immediate
savings. The new CD-ROMs allow DOE to provide assistance to a greater
number of plants across the country. See the DOE press release and for
more information and to order a CD, see the Save Energy Now Web site.
