RFI Deadline Extended to October 1, 2007

Be part of the solution! DOE has released a new Request for Information (RFI) to gather comments for use in developing voluntary agreements to reduce industrial energy intensity, and needs your input! The deadline for comments has been extended to 8:00 PM EST on October 1, 2007.

Section 106 of EPAct authorizes DOE to engage in voluntary agreements with industry partners to meet the goal of reducing industrial energy intensity 25% by 2017 (not less than 2.5% each year from 2007 through 2016). Through this new RFI, DOE is requesting input from the industrial community on how best to reach this goal.

Your voice counts! DOE invites responses to this complex question: What are the most beneficial and efficient ways to reduce industry energy intensity 25% by 2017?

When responding, please consider the following:

Describe the experience or lessons learned from your company's energy management activities.
What concerns might your company have about reducing energy intensity by 2.5% each year?
How essential to your company's economic competitiveness is reduction of energy consumption?
What would motivate your company to participate in this initiative?
What would be the most effective way to conduct a government-supported program to reduce industrial energy intensity?
What is the best method of documenting and verifying energy savings in order to gauge the success of the voluntary agreements?
How interested is your company is participating in this initiative?
Should there be national or international standards developed for industrial energy management?
What type of technical assistance, technology, or plant assessment tool would be critical to ensure your company's participation?
