ITP Releases Updated Process Heating Software Tool
April 30, 2008
The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) announces the release of its updated Process Heating Assessment and Survey Tool (PHAST). PHAST is used to identify opportunities for thermal efficiency of heating equipment, survey process heating equipment that consumes fuel, steam, or electricity, and identify the most energy-intensive equipment. PHAST Version 2.0 supports inputs in both English and metric units of measurements. Additional enhanced features will help industrial process heating managers assess furnace equipment and other process heating equipment, such as ovens, heaters, melters, and boilers. Local currency options for energy cost and savings calculations are also available.
This new version of PHAST is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista operating systems, and replaces Version 1.1.2. Previously collected plant data using PHAST 1.1.2 cannot be directly transferred to PHAST 2.0; however a patch is available at the software tool download site, which allows for parallel use of both versions.
PHAST Version 2.0 is part of ITP’s popular suite of software tools that help industrial users evaluate energy system efficiency. Several of these tools now have capabilities for metric measurements. These system-specific software tools can be downloaded free of charge from the ITP BestPractices Web site.
