DOE Announces Solid-State Lighting Technology Funding Opportunity
May 15, 2008
Energy used for lighting represents one-fifth of the national electricity consumption; therefore, DOE has set aggressive goals for R&D of energy efficient solid-state lighting technologies. To help meet these goals, DOE has announced a solicitation for Solid-State Lighting Core Technology R&D. This is the fifth round in a series of solicitations issued by the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Building Technologies Program to support R&D of lighting technologies that are more energy efficient, longer-lasting, and cost-competitive.
The program areas of interest for this opportunity target technological advances in both light emitting diode (LED) and organic light emitting diode (OLED) efficiency and stability.
Approximately $7,500,000 is expected to be available for new awards under this solicitation, and DOE anticipates making five to ten awards.
Don't delay! The deadline for applications is June 17, 2008, at 8:00 PM EST. DOE expects to notify applicants selected for awards by December 31, 2008, and make awards by March 31, 2009.
