3M Showcases Energy-Saving Strategies Implemented by Industrial Companies
October 21, 2010
3M and the Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) co-hosted an event at their world headquarters in St. Paul, Minnesota, to showcase how Save Energy Now LEADER Companies have successfully launched and implemented the Save Energy Now initiative throughout their companies. Save Energy Now is a national initiative to drive reductions in industrial energy intensity. The event had participation from more than 100 representatives from U.S. industry, utilities, federal and state governments, energy service companies, academia, and 3M suppliers.
The event opened with keynote remarks by U.S. Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota) who discussed industry's importance to the country, and how the Save Energy Now LEADER initiative is a model for success. The event featured presentations by John Woodworth, 3M's Senior Vice President for Corporate Supply Chain Operations and Corporate Energy Manager Steve Schultz, followed by a discussion of how 3M plants saved energy using ITP resources. A panel of energy managers from 3M, Alcoa, Briggs & Stratton, General Motors, J.R. Simplot, and Sherwin-Williams discussed how they implemented Save Energy Now company-wide to reduce their energy use. The event concluded with companies sharing key takeaways from the meeting that could be implemented at their plants, including securing top-level management support for energy-saving projects, project implementation, and employee engagement.
