DOE Partner Recognized for Energy Efficiency Leadership

Cummins Engine Co., in a collaboration with U.S. Electrical Motors and McBroom Electric Co., was officially recognized on July 9 by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Motor Challenge program in an awards ceremony at the Cummins Engine plant in Columbus, Ind. The Cummins motor system efficiency project has realized energy cost savings of $207,000 per year and is noteworthy because of its magnitude. American industry could save $1 billion annually in energy costs (the equivalent of the amount of electricity supplied to the state of New York for three months) if every plant in the United States integrated motor system upgrades to the same extent as these three partners on this project. DOE's Motor Challenge program provides industry with resources and tools - such as expert, unbiased information about motor system design, purchase and operation - that promote energy-efficiency in industrial motor systems.
