FMC Corporation's Chemical Products Group (CPG) is Newest Allied Partner

October 22, 2001

An Allied Partner Agreement was developed and signed by FMC Corporation's Chemical Products Group (CPG) and the Department of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT).  FMC Corpration is one of the world's leading producers of chemicals for industry and agriculture.  Within FMC's Chemical Products Group are three U.S.-based divisions:  the Alkali Chemicals Division (produces natural soda ash), the Hydrogen Peroxide Division, and teh Active Oxidants Division (produces persulfate products and peracetic acid).  These three divisions have formed an Allied Partnership with OIT.

FMC is working to improve the resource efficiency of its business.  In support of reducing energy usages, FMC has formed site energy reduction teams and energy-focused technology support teams.  As an Allied Partner, FMC will apply OIT programs, products, tools and services to their energy reduction efforts, and will assist in the promotion of OIT energy efficiency strategies and tools within the chemical industry.  The Allied Partnership between OIT and FMC is expected to encompass the following initiatives:

  • Promoting awareness and dissemination of OIT resources and information.
  • Conducting energy assessments.
  • Conducting energy efficiency training workshops.
  • Participating in Texas Industries of the Future
  • Evaluating emerging technology implementation opportunities.

Dan Summers, FMC Chemical Products Group Manager, says, "BTU purchase cost is volitile, and not readily influenced by end-users.  However, lower and more efficient consumption of energy is something that end-users can influence.  It is a critical prioirtiy of our business, and FMC looks forward to working with OIT in the effort to promote energy conservation."
