OIT Times: Winners of "High School Engineering Challenge" to be Recognized at Expo

OIT and the Stephen and Elizabeth Bechtel Foundation are co-sponsoring this year High School Engineering Challenge. This year competition took place in November/December, 2000. Over 100 different sites (mostly college campuses) in 45 states hosted participating teams.

The High School Engineering Challenge was designed and developed approximately 20 years ago by the Junior Engineering Technical Society. The challenge, also known as TEAM+S (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science), is a unique and exciting nationwide academic program culminating in a one-day, engineering problem competition involving teams of high school students. Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate in the challenge; however, students must form teams of four to eight members.

The test is divided into two equal parts each consisting of ten multiple-choice problems. Each problem has ten questions, nine of which focus on the Industries of the Future. Test questions were prepared and implemented by OIT employees. Winners will be determined in late January, 2001 and awarded a trip to Expo 4 where they will be recognized in a formal awards ceremony on Tuesday, February 20.
