Now Available: Technology Roadmap for Energy Loss Reduction and Recovery

January 10, 2005

The ITP Industrial Energy Systems Program has released a roadmap outlining R&D priorities for energy systems that are used throughout industry, such as waste heat recovery, combined heat and power, energy-efficient boilers and process heaters, and motor-driven systems.  The Technology Roadmap: Energy Loss Reduction and Recovery in Industrial Energy Systems identifies key opportunities where advanced energy systems and best energy management practices can reduce energy losses.

The technology roadmap is based on the results of the Energy Loss and Reduction workshop held in Baltimore, MD in April 2004 to gain industry feedback, and draws on data from other ITP analyses.  An important outcome is the development of a "Top 20" list that links technology opportunities with potential energy savings.  Recovery of waste heat, technological advances in boilers and fired systems, energy systems integration, and optimization of motor-driven systems are listed among the top opportunities.  The report provides a basis for portfolio decision-making and will help to guide future energy systems R&D solicitations.
