DOE Conducts Energy Assessment at Minnesota Paper Mill

DOE announced on February 14th that a three-day industrial Energy Saving Assessment will take place at the Boise Cascade facility in International Falls, Minnesota, as part of the comprehensive national energy efficiency effort being undertaken by the Bush administration. Through no-cost assessments, DOE is working with major manufacturing facilities to identify opportunities to save energy and money, primarily by focusing on steam and process heating systems. Boise Cascade manufactures engineered wood products, plywood, lumber, particleboard, and paper. Its International Falls mill features four paper machines that together produce about 1,500 tons of paper per day. A DOE team already visited the plant in 2003, finding energy savings that would amount to $700,000 in annual energy savings.
