Inferential Process Control Report Available Online

Inferential process control uses a variety of inputs to predict, or infer, product quality where it cannot be measured on-line. By improving process control in continuous manufacturing, inference-based systems can greatly reduce the waste and expense associated with products that do not meet quality standards. This report identifies the main system components required to deploy a working inferential process control system, and major research needs for each component. The report summarizes discussion at an Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) workshop on inferential process control. The workshop brought together experts from industry and research institutions to clarify the goals and challenges anticipated in developing an industry-usable inferential process control system.
