New Steam Sourcebook Guides Users to Improved Performance, Lower Costs
July 30, 2002
OIT BestPractices Steam program offers a new publication to help industrial steam users improve steam system performance and access some practical guidelines and helpful resources. Improving Steam System Performance, a Sourcebook for Industry offers valuable performance-enhancing information to both novice and experienced steam system managers.
Often, operators focus on the immediate demands of the equipment, but overlook the broader question of how system parameters affect the equipment. This sourcebook shifts the focus from individual components to total system performance. Using this approach, steam managers analyze the supply and demand sides of the system and how they interact.
Use the sourcebook to:
- Learn, or brush up on, steam system basics.
- Find out about various OIT steam system training tools.
- Get tips on presenting steam system improvement proposals to management.
- Identify many sources of OIT assistance and other resources.
The contains three sections that cover these topics:
Steam System Basics—help users become more familiar with the basics of steam systems, or for users seeking a refresher, a brief discussion of the terms, relationships, and important system design considerations.
Performance Improvement Opportunities&mdashhere you can find out about specific opportunities to improve steam system performance and to lower operating costs. This section also provides an overview of the finance considerations related to steam system improvements.
Programs, Contacts, and Resources—a comprehensive list of associations and other organizations involved in the steam system marketplace. You will also find a description of the BestPractices Steam program, a directory of key contacts, and a listing of steam resources and tools, such as publications, software, training courses, and videos.
The sooner you learn about the available steam system improvement opportunities, the sooner you and your customers could begin improving the bottom line.
The sourcebook was co-sponsored by the Council of Industrial Boiler Operators, the National Insulation Association, and the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association.
