Society of the Plastics Industry Signs First EERE Allied Partnership Agreement
September 30, 2002
Don Duncan, President of the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI), and Assistant Secretary for EERE David Garman recently kicked off the first EERE-wide Allied Partnership. The two signed the partnership agreement at SPI's annual board of directors meeting on September 20 in Washington, DC.
SPI is the trade association representing the fourth largest manufacturing industry in the United States. SPI's 1500 company members represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment manufacturers, and raw materials suppliers. The U.S. plastics industry employs 1.5 million workers, provides more than $330 billion in annual shipments, and accounts for 6% of all the energy used in the manufacturing sector.
This new Allied Partnership represents a shared, voluntary commitment between SPI and DOE to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies for buildings, commercial, industrial, and transportation systems. SPI plans to benefit from EERE's program and technical information resources on research, development, and demonstration opportunities. In addition, the partnership will explore new approaches to best practices in energy management and deployment of emerging technologies.
