Acting Director, Communications

Sarah Lynch serves as the Acting Director of Communications for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) at the Department of Energy (DOE). In leading a team that conducts a broad range of strategic communications and outreach activities, she oversees EERE's web enterprise, traditional and social media presence, executive and internal communications activities, public awareness activities, inquiries and correspondence, and other related efforts. She previously worked in EERE's Biomass Program for 2 years, and briefly in DOE's Office of the Chief Financial Officer, both in the role of senior analyst.

Before joining DOE in May 2009, she was employed at the U.S. Government Accountability office (GAO) since April 2002, where she led several GAO reviews that assessed the efficiency and effectiveness of federal programs and policies. Resulting reports and testimonies covered topics such as the impacts of biofuels production, implementation of DOE's Loan Guarantee Program, readiness for new nuclear plant licensing and existing plant oversight, strategic human capital management of an S&T workforce, and U.S. efforts to reconstruct Iraq's oil and electricity infrastructures. At GAO, she was also a training instructor and on-campus recruiter for several years. Earlier federal experience includes work on the Hill.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1996 and her Master of Public Policy from the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs in 2001. She is a Senior Fellow of the Partnership for Public Service's Excellence in Government Center for Government Leadership Program, and is also on the Partnership's Speakers Bureau.
