Robert Sandoli
Director, International Program
Rob Sandoli is the Director of the International Program in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). He manages EERE bilateral and multilateral partnerships and projects, develops new international collaborations, and coordinates international efforts with other DOE offices, federal agencies, and international organizations. Through international collaboration, the program accelerates progress of EERE's clean energy technology programs and primes markets in strategic partner economies for U.S. clean technology exports.
Previously, Mr. Sandoli served as Senior Advisor to DOE's Under Secretary of Energy, where he provided analysis and advice on budget, management, and policy issues for DOE's $10 billion portfolio of applied energy research, development, and deployment programs (fossil, nuclear, renewable, efficiency, electricity reliability), as well as environmental cleanup programs.
As Deputy Special Advisor for Alternative Energy at the U.S. Department of State, Mr. Sandoli managed implementation of a multi-faceted biofuels agreement with Brazil and played an integral role in planning and managing the finance track for Washington International Renewable Energy Conference, which had more than 9,000 participants from 125 countries. His leadership was recognized with a State Department Superior Honor Award.
Mr. Sandoli spent much of his career as a Program Examiner at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), where he was honored 5 times with OMB Achievement awards for his part in the development of energy and climate change initiatives, as well as for program management and performance assessment initiatives. In 2004, he was seconded as a Professional Staff Member on the House Committee on Science (Energy Subcommittee) in the U.S. Congress. Prior to his government career, Mr. Sandoli was a project manager and environmental scientist at Earth Tech, Inc. (now merged with AECOM), an environmental consulting firm.
He holds a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in Biotechnology from Rutgers University, a Master of Science in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, and an Master of Science in Microbiology from Cornell University.
