DOE delivered more than $288 million in Recovery Act funding on July 6 to expand weatherization assistance programs in Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Hampshire. Interior Department Expedites Solar Energy Development in the West

The Interior Department has identified 24 large tracts of public land that could potentially host utility-scale solar power plants. The agency is studying the environmental and resource suitability of the tracts, located in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah, with the intent to speed the development of solar power facilities in the West. More

Report: Demand Response Could Cut U.S. Peak Power Demand by 20%

Despite a constant projected growth in electricity use over the next decade, the peak power demand in the United States could be held essentially steady, according to a new report from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Achieving that feat would involve the widespread use of "smart" meters and utility rates that go up with increasing demand. More

Federal Agencies to Assist with Clean Energy Development in the West

DOE and the Western Governor's Association released a report on June 15 that identifies 37 "hubs" for renewable energy in the western United States, plus 17 in western Canada and in Baja California. The hubs could yield nearly 200,000 megawatts of renewable power, and DOE and other federal agencies will strive to help make that happen. More
