Solar America Cities

Solar America Cities is an activity of the Solar America Initiative. Twenty-five cities across the U.S. are partnering with DOE to support the goals of SAI. These cities are committed to accelerating the adoption of solar energy technologies at the local level.

The Solar America Initiative aims to reduce market barriers for solar energy technologies through demonstration and deployment of solar technologies. Market transformation activities focusing on deployment provide funding and technical support to install novel solar technologies that could be replicated in large-scale, high-visibility solar installations throughout the United States.

Market transformation deployment projects target the following:

  • Federal/state/city buildings as early adopters
  • Activities that facilitate mainstream solar adoption
  • Activities that provide a model for others.
