This 540-kilowatt PV system at the Cal Expo in Sacramento, California, produces enough energy to power 180 homes while providing shaded parking for 1,000 cars. The Solar America Initiative provides significant funding opportunities for partners to develop, improve, and deploy solar energy technologies. Initial funding provided $159 million to U.S. Department of Energy partners. Future funding is estimated at $200 million, subject to congressional approval. Funding opportunities within the Solar America Initiative encourage collaborative partnerships among industry, universities, national laboratories, federal, state, and local governments and non-government agencies and advocacy groups.
