June 12, 2006, Market Transformation Technical Exchange Meeting, Washington, D.C. (NAHB Headquarters)

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Solar Energy Technologies Program carried out 2 technical exchange meetings in support of the Solar America Initiatives Market Transformation work. The meetings took place in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco, CA during June 2006. The objective of the SAI Technical Exchange Meeting (TEM) for market transformation was to solicit input from diverse organization regarding options and strategies for the Department of Energy (DOE) to consider in designing the structure and procurement strategy for the market-pull efforts of the Solar America Initiative (SAI). Market Transformation activities focus on eliminating non-technical barriers to solar market growth.

The focus of the Washington, D.C. meeting was the discussion of critical issues that will have a significant impact on the structure of the initiative and the resulting market transformation funding opportunity announcement (FOA). The key mechanism used to accomplish this objective was a series of breakout sessions held during this one-day event. There were 3 groups hosting simultaneous breakout sessions on each day. Each group was assigned a topic to discuss with the intent of developing potential options for the resolution of issues within that topic. The specific group topics in Washington, D.C. were:

Codes, Regulations, and Standards
Training Installers and Code Officials and National Accreditation of Training Institutions
National PV Rating Systems and System Finance and Insurance
