DOE Releases Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan

September 10, 2010

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released its Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan (SSPP) outlining targets and tactics to reduce departmental greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction through energy management and sustainability strategies.

Required by Executive Order (E.O.) 13514, the SSPP was submitted to the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and Office of Management and Budget (OMB).  It builds on DOE’s progress to date and commits the department to achieving a 28% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions and a 13% reduction in Scope 3 emissions while improving energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable acquisition.
